Improvention
Australia's international festival and convention of improvised theatre, held annually in Canberra in July. A week-long indulgence of more than 50 half-day workshops in every style imaginable and conducted by a combination of world greats, domestic leaders from every state, and surprising submissions. A performance schedule of more than 30 shows, from the open-entry Maestro program running throughout the festival, to genre longforms, experimental pieces, musicals, whatever, many drawing their cast from workshop/festival participants, across geographies, styles, levels. A convention in which improvising groups discuss ways to co-operate and operate more effectively. A social schedule that is as much a focus as any other aspect and leads participants long into the night, every night, networking, playing, saving the world, then doing it all again the next day. 2015 dates are July 4-11. Sleep well before you come, but come - ask anyone in your country who has been :)
