This partner exercise serves to focus concentration and free the mind through deliberate cognitive overload. By separating verbal and physical impulses, intuitive responsiveness is trained.
Procedure and Rules
First, a steady rhythm is established, for example by clapping or walking on the spot. The exercise is performed in two roles that give each other impulses and process them with a time delay.
The roles are distributed as follows:
Player A provides a new word on every beat. At the same time, this player must copy the gesture that Player B showed on the previous beat.
Player B provides a new gesture on every beat. At the same time, this player must repeat the word that Player A said on the previous beat.
Tips for Execution
It is important to choose a slow tempo at the beginning. Once the flow is stable, the speed should be continuously increased. The exercise achieves its purpose when participants reach the limits of their concentration and mistakes happen.
Continuous eye contact between the partners helps maintain the connection and support each other in keeping the rhythm. The goal of the exercise is not perfection, but accepting the overload.
